Frequently Asked Questions
Everything attorneys ask about Saul before signing up.
General
What is Saul?
Saul is an AI-powered evidence review platform built for attorneys. Upload video or audio evidence (body-cam footage, depositions, recorded interviews), and Saul produces speaker-labeled transcripts with AI-detected key legal moments — in minutes, not hours.
Who is Saul built for?
Saul is built for attorneys and legal professionals who handle video and audio evidence — particularly criminal defense attorneys reviewing body-cam footage, litigators working with deposition videos, and any legal team dealing with video discovery.
What file formats does Saul support?
Saul supports all common video and audio formats including MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WAV, MP3, M4A, and more. If you can play it, Saul can transcribe it.
How long does it take to process a video?
Most videos are transcribed and analyzed in minutes. A 1-hour body-cam video typically completes in under 5 minutes. Processing time varies slightly with file length and format.
Features
What is speaker diarization?
Speaker diarization is the process of identifying who spoke when in a recording. Saul labels each segment of the transcript with a speaker identifier, so you can see exactly which officer, witness, or attorney said what.
What types of key moments does the AI detect?
Saul's AI detects legally significant events including: identification requests, stop reasons, escalation points, use of force, Miranda warnings, arrests, and other notable moments. The system is trained on legal scenarios specific to evidence review.
Can I search the transcript?
Yes. Every word in the transcript is searchable and linked to its timestamp in the original video. Search for any term — a name, a date, specific language — and jump directly to that moment in the footage.
How accurate is the AI transcription?
AI transcription is highly accurate for clear audio but may be less precise with background noise, overlapping speech, or heavy accents. We recommend verifying critical quotes against the original footage before citing them in legal proceedings.
Security & Privacy
Where is my evidence data stored?
All evidence files are stored exclusively on U.S. infrastructure (Amazon S3, US regions). Your data never leaves the United States. This is a foundational design decision, not an add-on.
How is my data encrypted?
Evidence files are encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit using TLS 1.3. Access is controlled through user-isolated permissions with audit logging.
Can other users see my evidence files?
No. Access is strictly user-isolated. Your evidence, transcripts, and case data are only accessible to your account. There is no shared access or multi-tenant visibility.
Does Saul have a Data Processing Agreement (DPA)?
Yes. Saul provides a DPA that covers data handling, sub-processors, breach notification, and deletion policies. You can review it at usesaul.com/dpa.
Pricing
How much does Saul cost?
Saul uses simple per-file pricing — you pay only for the files you process. There are no subscriptions, seat licenses, or minimum commitments. Your first file is free.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Your first video transcription and analysis is completely free. No credit card required to sign up. You can see exactly what Saul produces before you pay for anything.
Do I need a subscription?
No. Saul is pay-per-file. Use it for one file or a hundred — you only pay for what you process. No monthly fees, no annual contracts.
Legal
Is Saul a law firm?
No. Saul is a technology platform, not a law firm. Nothing on the platform constitutes legal advice or creates an attorney-client relationship. Saul is a tool that helps attorneys work more efficiently with evidence.
Can I use Saul's output as evidence in court?
Saul's transcripts and AI-detected moments are tools for attorney review and case preparation. They are not certified court transcripts. Always verify AI-generated output against original footage before relying on it in legal proceedings.
